In the book Living with Joy, there are a number of fabulous exercises. Here’s one:

1. List 7 things you love to do, that you feel joyful when you do them, that you haven’t done in the last several months. They may be anything — lying in the sun, taking a trip, getting a massage, accomplishing a goal, exercising, reading.

2. Beside each item, list what stops you from doing it — something either inside (fear, doubt, judgement, etc.) or outside (someone, something, such as lack of money, time, etc.)

3. Take 2 or 3 things on your list that are most joyful for you, and think of one step you can take toward doing or having it.

4. Mark your calendar with a a date and time that you will take the steps. Make it real.
